Buying Key Date coins for future Financial Benefits
by D. L. Crane

Key date coins are usually rare coins that are the last to be purchased or placed in a collection as they are usually the highest priced coins in a series.

These have a date or date and mint mark combination which are rare or very hard to find.

This is the final coin that most collectors need to complete a collection. Investing in rare key date coins could prove to a benefit financially.

Professional coin collectors will not simply collect coins but will certainly specialize in a specific type of coin to try and complete the collection.

When completing an entire set this increases drastically the total value of the set.

The only problem with buying Key date coins is that most gold series prove to be rather expensive, so it is important that you find key date coins which are in demand. Finding a rare coin could mean a great investment, these coins have no set date which it must be sold by, and the value will never drop to zero, so collecting these coins could mean benefiting from large profits.

The key here is to invest in scarce mintage coins which have the potential to make small or large profits especially if kept for a period of time.

Key Date Coins:
A key date coin is one coin of a series which is either scarce, rare, or much less common than most of the other dates in the series. It is also the most sought after coin of that series. When collectors or dealers pick through a large quantity of coins to form a complete date collection, it is always the "key date" which they find hardest to get. A key date coin is also usually the lowest mintage of the denomination or series.

Semi Key Dates
Some dates are not quite as scarce as others, but still not as common as most dates, and these are often referred as semi-key dates.
